Celebrating “destiny” as its theme, the short film contest for ASVOFF Milan 2012 was launched as an ‘open call’ several months ago by Diane Pernet on her blog ASVOF www.asvof.com. Films selected for competition are limited to one minute in length and explore a diverse range of perspectives on destiny. Explaining how the theme came about, Diane says:
“Destiny is interesting here because, like fashion, it can be fuelled by both the exceptionally trivial and the hugely profound. At the same time, it’s also a very personal concept and one that’s pretty puzzling for most people – yet strangely revealing too. So all this mirrors fashion in a way. And if you think of life as one big film, then destiny is that slippery moment just after the projection of the final frame. The cinema goes black and the audience holds its breath as the credits begin to roll. No one really knows what destiny looks like because it only appears after we’ve expired. But that doesn’t necessarily mean we shouldn't ponder it. Or try to shape it.”
Well, I personally thought it was amazing,
just as destiny is.
Let's not try to shape it!
